Getting around Plitvice Lakes

On Foot

During your visit, you will spend most of your time walking. When you enter the park, you will first have to make your way down the switchback path, which takes you into the canyon. From there, you will be following boardwalks that take you along each lake before climbing up to the next lake above it. There are also many walking trails that run along the edge of the canyon, offering a remarkable view of the lakes below.

By Boat

It would be a shame if there weren’t at least one boat ride in this national park since there are so many lakes. Thankfully, there is, and it’s an excellent one. On Lake Kozjak, which is the largest and deepest lake, you can take a relaxing boat cruise from one end of the lake to the other. This will allow you to further explore areas of the park which are not accessible on foot.

The “Panoramic Train”

This shuttle service is ideal for visitors who want to get around the Upper Lakes of Plitvice without walking. An electric shuttle bus, better known as the “Panoramic Train” service, makes three stops on its route.

The first bus stop, ST1, is at the northern end of Lake Kozjak’s eastern bank. Afterward, it heads south to ST2, part-way between the ferry point P1 and several park hotels. The final stopover at ST3 is close to the three highest lakes, ideal for returning after walking your way up.
