One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen
We were in Dubrovnik for a week, so I wanted to take a private day trip as a break. We decided on seeing a national park in Croatia, and Plitvice Lakes looked like the prettiest - and THEY WERE! You could literally spend all day here. Everywhere you turn is just beautiful nature. I know everyone talks about Veliki Slap, but I thought the perfect blue lakes were the most gorgeous. I also really loved the cute boat ride!

They were bang-on time picking us up, very much appreciated. It was super comfortable while traveling, and I had no problem relaxing. This was important for me since it’s a longish drive. The tour guide was also great and told us all the details of what to do at Plitvice Lakes when we got there. Stuff like where to enter, which hiking trails to take, and so on. Very informative and very well-organized!

HIKE THROUGH COUNTLESS NATURE-FILLED PATHS
We’ll leave you at the Plitvice Lakes entrance so you can make the most of your visit. The park covers an area of 296.85 square kilometres (73,350 acres) - meaning there’s plenty to explore! There are seven scenic routes and four hiking routes, so choose the path that fits your fitness level. They’re all beautiful, all surrounded by vibrant vegetation and calm lakes. The most time-efficient routes are A (Lower Lakes) and E (Upper Lakes), taking about 2 to 3 hours each. Experienced hikers can take any hiking trail. Another option is scenic route H or K. They take between 4 and 8 hours, depending on different route variants.
SEE THE NATIONAL PARK’S FAMOUS UPPER AND LOWER LAKES
Whatever path you choose, you’ll constantly find beautiful lakes. The national park has countless small, unnamed lakes, and there are also 16 larger, named lakes. They’re split into the Upper Lakes and Lower Lakes - both stunning. There are 12 Upper Lakes, which include the two largest lakes in the park, Kozjak and Prošćansko. They're also mostly gentler with more picturesque, indented shores. You’ll find 4 Lower Lakes, all cut into a deep canyon with steep cliffs. At the end of the Lower Lakes are the magnificent Sastavci waterfalls. At the base of that waterfall is the beginning of the serene Korana River. Whatever lakes you see, you won’t be missing out; they’re all worth a visit.
VIEW PICTURESQUE AND POWERFUL WATERFALLS
All the lakes are interconnected through cascading waterfalls - rushing torrents of water. Make sure to see Veliki Slap (The Great Waterfall). At 78 meter high, it’s Croatia’s largest waterfall! You’ll find it at the end of the Lower Lakes, where the Plitvica stream flows into the waterfall. Sastavci Waterfall is also extremely close to the Great Waterfall. In fact, it also marks the end of the national park. The Korana River flows out from Sastavci’s base. Besides these two waterfalls, another must-see is Veliki Prštavac. It's a 28-meter high waterfall on the edge of Gradinsko Lake.
